This study was both to identify the relevant factors associated with an operational decision and to investigate experimentally the efficacy of decision aids as a function of the level of computer support provided to the commander. An operational decision involving the selection of a tattletail ship was chosen as the decision point for evaluation and an experiment was designed and validated using an options selection matrix as the decision aid. Nine subjects with command support experience andor operational Naval experience were tested in our Command Support Simulator to evaluate the acceptance of three distinct levels of computer support in arriving at a selection of a tattletail ship.
