The objectives of this research are 1 the characterization of the vaporization, gaseous combustion and reaction products over high temperature materials such as a the refractory metals and their oxides, b graphite and carbides, and c flame and propellant constituents such as boron 2 the determination, via optical and ESR electron spin resonance spectroscopy, of the vibrational and electronic properties of these and related high-temperature molecules and the understanding and correlation of that information with theory whenever possible.
