Pagination or Media Count:
A quantitative hazards and risk analysis was conducted on the preliminary design of the proposed ammonium nitratenitric acid Transfer facility to be constructed at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. The evaluation of all potential fire and explosion hazards was accomplished through the application of the Hazards Evaluation and Risk Control HERC program. Specific recommendations are offered which, when implemented, would reduce overall system risk in a cost effective manner. These recommendations, generally consisting of minor modifications in equipment design and operating procedures, will serve as a useful guide during the subsequent completion of the facility design. Relatively small overall fire and explosion probabilities were determined to exist for the Transfer system, as currently designed.
