A computer model of a station post insulator was analyzed for stress concentration with a finite element program for an applied stress of 1,000 psi. A stress concentration factor of 2.01 was obtained for the vertical stress between the sheds this corresponded to a strain of 195 microinchin. The prototype, which was strain-gaged and loaded, yielded a strain value of 200 microinchin. Other computer information obtained were the shear, radial, and circumferential stresses and strains throughout the entire station post insulator. Author
