Abstract:
The photoenhancement of the oxidation of carbon monoxide over palladium has been studied at low and high pressures in the temperature range 300 to 443 K. At a total pressure of 20 torr there is a marked photoenhancement of the rate while at pressures below 0.0001 torr no enhancement was detectable. A correlation of these data and infrared spectroscopic data is established which suggests that a weakly bound state of CO is intimately involved in the photoenhancement process.
