Abstract:
Three models of an aircraft repair facility are developed for use in computing manpower savings achievable by scaling-up aircraft maintenance shops. One model is a bivariate Markov process model requiring a Gauss-Seidel iterative algorithm for its solution. The other two are the simple Repairman problem and the MMS queue, the solutions to which can be found in most introductory texts on stochastic models. The simple models are compared to the more refined bivariate model in regard to predictive accuracy. The simple models are used to compute the manpower savings achievable in one scaling-up scheme, and predict a 20 savings in maintenance personnel. Author
