Abstract:
Single cell pelletized thermal batteries using electrolytes of molten aluminum chloride-sodium chloride mixtures are described. Anodes were made of aluminum, lithium, or aluminum-lithium alloys. A variety of cathodes was employed, including a transition metal oxides, halides, and sulfatesgraphite or metal powder, b halogengraphite, c organic oxidantsgraphite, d chalcogengraphite, e intercalcate compoundsgraphite, f alkali salts, peroxydisulfate salts, hypochlorite saltsgraphite. Constant load and constant current discharge behaviors are discussed.
