Abstract:

The objective of the first year of this study was to investigate the removal of organic matter in MUST hospital wastewater after the reverse osmosis RO process by treatment with ozone, activated carbon and ion-exchange resins for potential reuse of the effluents. The major tasks completed during the first year of this study are as follows 1 extensive study on the removal of organic matter in MUST wastes after RO process by treatment with ozone, activated carbon, and ion-exchange resins 2 evaluation of the effect of biological pretreatment of MUST wastewater on the removal of organics by UF-RO-O3 processes 3 development of the stripping and the distillation techniques for the analysis of volatile organic compounds present in RO permeates 4 development of solvent extraction coupled with high pressure liquid chromatography HPLC technique for the analysis of nonvolatiles.
