Abstract:
Knowledge of airfield damage and the capability to predict damage from possible hostile attack are required to allow Bomb Damage Repair BDR personnel to plan base recovery activity and rapid runway repair. The objective of this effort was to collect existing data on airfield pavement effects, as functions of pavement and weapon parameters, identify those parameters having a significant effect on pavement damage, repair time effort, and to generate damage prediction relationships for use by BDR engineers. The collected data were placed in a consistent format in a computerized data file. By plotting the data and subjecting them to various analytical procedures, significant parameters affecting damage were identified. Mathematical relationships were developed between the data, and damage prediction nomographs were generated for the three repair levels considered. These prediction relationships are in a format readily usable by field personnel and enable rapid damage prediction computations and subsequent runway repair planning operations.
