Abstract:
An ion plating unit was constructed and some preliminary studies made using germanium and cadmium telluride as the principal materials deposited. Both glass and potassium chloride were used as substrates. Electron microscopy was used to characterize some organic films produced by plasma polymerization. Electron micrographs, selected area diffraction, and high resolution diffraction techniques were used. The crystalline films gave reflections which indicated a cubic system which could be indexed as diamond. Work continues on the automation and computer control of the ellipsometer and the ion scattering spectrometer.
