Abstract:
The report presents an analysis of three data transmission methods over a time division multiplexed communications link. The three methods are quasi-analog data, synchronous data and non-synchronous data. The communications link is not ideal and is characterized by bit errors in the multiplexed data stream. The bit errors were injected synthetically and not by a real channel. The injection mechanism and error rate is not necessarily characteristic of any real channel. The purpose of this report is to observe how errors are demultiplexed and how these errors manifest themselves in the data transmitted to the user. A unique analysis capability shows the actual distribution of injected errors and the resultant error-free interval distribution of modems operating at three different data rates 2400, 4800, and 9600 Bps.
