Abstract:

In order to provide data necessary for predicting the operating characteristics of proposed alkali atom-rare gas excimer lasers, measurements have been made of the fluorescence spectral intensity from the NaXe2 molecule. At Xe pressures of 20 atm, the NaXe2 fluorescence exceeds the NaXe fluorescence for wavelengths greater than 720 nm. New techniques have been developed for the calculation of the growth of instabilities in laser type discharges, and for the analyses of measurement of rate coefficients for the electron excitation of molecules. The collisional quenching of Na atoms in the 3 doublet P states has been observed and appears to be the result of excitation transfer to Na2 molecules.
