The Effect of Transverse Shear Deformation on the Elastic Stability of Plates of Composite Materials.

Methods of analysis are developed for determining the critical inplane buckling loads for plates of composite materials with a wide variety of boundary conditions. Although the expressions developed are restricted to specially orthotropic construction of one lamina, their use is more general, and can be used for laminated specially orthotropic plates that are symmetric with respect to the plate midsurface i.e. no bending-stretching coupling. It is seen that the effects of transverse shear deformation can be significant, not only in altering the magnitude of the buckling loads but even in altering the wave number. Author
