A model for the penetration through a thin target by a fuzed projectile at normal incidence was developed. It was assumed that the penetration mechanisms were plugging followed by petalling. From this model the force and stress distributions acting on the fuze were plotted. It was found that the major stress on the fuze was the longitudinal component due to plugging. The effects of petalling were negligible. The forces and stresses were found to be proportional to the square of the impact velocity.
