The purpose of this research was twofold 1 to develop estimates of the amount of each of 17 critical materials consumed by U.S. industry to supply DoD final demand and to describe their direct and indirect flow through industry and 2 to analyze potential economic impacts of a shortage of one or more of these materials. Material consumption and flow analysis was performed for the following materials Aluminum, Chromium, Coal, Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Natural gas, Nickel, Petroleum, Platinum, Silver, Tin, Titanium metal, Titanium pigment, Tungsten, Zinc castings, and Zinc galvanizing.
