Recent literature contains works on the theory of the interaction between electron beams and a three-dimensional confined plasma. Much was said in this case for the theory of natural electromagnetic oscillations of a confined plasma. The purpose of this survey article is to present systematically the results of these works and to compare them with experiment. The survey consists of three parts. In the first part a method for analyzing the high-frequency electromagnetic oscillations of a three-dimensional confined plasma is presented. The second part of the survey presents the results of theoretical research on the excitation of electromagnetic waves by relativistic electron beams in a three-dimensional confined plasma. Finally, in the third part of the survey the results of a nonlinear study of the interaction of electron beams with plasma during development of a single-mode instability are given.
