An evaluation of control and monitor instrumentation for the Water Processing Elements WPE in the Medical Unit Self-Contained Transportable MUST complex was successfully completed. The program was primarily directed toward the evaluation of monitor instrumentation with secondary considerations given to its impact on control instrumentation. Emphasis was placed on a a survey of proper control and monitor instrumentation for the unit processes in the MUST WPE and the integrated system, b conducting a trade-off analysis between spectator-analyzed performance data and various levels of automatic analysis, c evaluating potable water quality monitoring requirements, and d preparing a preliminary and final comparison of alternatives against each other and also against the instrumentation needs for a semi-automatic, automatic and automatic system with maintenance aids. The MUST medical complex WPE unit processes were studied and the integrated system was defined. The integrated system requirements and the selected water quality monitor equipment were combined with the instrumentation-related Product Assurance activities to arrive at the WPE system instrumentation recommendations.
