Abstract:

A FORTRAN computer program, LOWTRAN 3, is described for calculating the transmittance of the atmosphere in the spectral region from 0.25 to 28.5 micrometers at a spectral resolution of 20cm. The program provides a choice of six atmospheric models covering seasonal and latitudinal variations from sea level to 100 km, two haze models, and accounts for molecular absorption, molecular scattering, and aerosol extinction. Refraction and earth curvature effects are also included. This program provides some modifications to the molecular absorption and aerosol extinction data provided in an earlier LOWTRAN 2 report. In addition, input modifications have been made, making the LOWTRAN 3 program considerably more flexible in terms of the input of meteorological data.
