Abstract:
High strength optical fibers communication system construction. This report summarizes an effort to increase fiber strength by coating sizing with polymers which reduce surface damage. The polyethylene coating investigated increased the strength of fused silica fibers from 143 MNsq to 3440 MNsq for short gage lengths. Author
