Recently there has been considerable interest in the development of compliantly mounted rigid pad bearings. To analyze this type of bearing mathematically requires the solution of fluid equations to determine the film behavior and elastic equations that govern the deformation of the compliant member bonded between the rigid members. However, an approximate analysis may be carried out by solving the fluid equations and the deformation equations independently with the common condition that the fluid film force and the moment are in equilibrium with the reaction force and the moment from the elastic mount.
