Abstract:
The thermal conditions necessary to ensure that porous nylon lubricant reservoirs properly function as lubricant replenishment sources are derived by thermodynamic methodology. The porous nylon must be warmer than its surroundings by at least an amount delta T, which may be expressed by the relation delta T-2 gamma V T sub B rH where T sub B is the system temperature, r is the nylon pore radius, and gamma, V, and H are the surface tension, the molar volume, and the molar heat of vaporization of the liquid lubricant, respectively.
