The study has as its goal, the collection and necessary management of a standard set of data to be used by the Center for conflict studies. Work has been done on two relatively simple computer-based systems for data storage and manipulation. These two systems have different purposes and are at differing stages of development. The first system, DATASELECTOR DSEL, is relatively well developed, although simple in concept. It is intended to deal with attribute and aggregate data for nations over years. This system is an extension of work done with data of the type published in the World Handbook, of Political and Social Indicators. The second system is quite undeveloped, but complex in conception. It is intended to deal with uncoded or as nearly uncoded as possible event reports, which are abstracts of reports, written in ordinary straight English text.
