The design principles of an adaptive equaliser are described. Subject to some shortcomings, the apparatus is suitable for reducing the effects of intersymbol interference when passing digital traffic at 2400 and at 4800 bitssec over audio circuits, operating in conjunction with a vestigial sideband modem.
