Abstract:
This report deals with the diffraction of water waves by large impermeable offshore structures. It presents the first phase of a laboratory study of the diffraction of uniform periodic waves by rigid, impervious, vertical-wall offshore structures. The laboratory tests were evaluated in view of an extension of existing diffraction theory using an available, modified computer program Fan, Cumming, and Wiegel, 1967. In addition, some studies were made of the effect of wave energy absorbing material placed on the seaward side of laboratory breakwater models.
