Abstract:

Volume 2 of this report is a design guide for integral engine inlet separators in the 2 to 15 lbsec size range. The separators are designed to remove sand, dust, and single foreign objects from the air entering a turboshaft engine. The procedures are based on results of a 30-month program to design and evaluate integral separators in 2, 5, and 15 lbsec sizes. Also included are procedures developed during the development of an integral inlet separator for the T700-GE-700 engine. A definition of a turboshaft engine environment in terms of sand, dust, and foreign objects is included in Appendix A. Appendix B describes the analysis of individual particle trajectories in separators to predict sand separation efficiency.
