The operational effectiveness of a general purpose simulator GPS was evaluated in a technical training course. GPS, in this context, refers to a computer based, programmable device that can be rather easily modified with varying levels of fidelity. A simulation model was designed for use in instructing students in checkout and troubleshooting procedures for a sophisticated aircraft radar system. Evaluation results clearly showed that the stimulator was an effective training device a training was at least as adequate as training received on an actual equipment trainer AET used in the course, b the simulator was much less expensive and more reliable than the AET, and c the simulator had the additional capability of training troubleshooting tasks.
