Many installations have had to use FORTRAN extensively in their work because of various economic, political, and social pressures. This paper describes a dialect of WATFIV, called SWATWM, which was developed to facilitate the teaching of structured programming concepts in the introductory programming course at the College of William and Mary. The control structures which are described could be implemented in other FORTRAN compilers.
