In this report, optimal design of elastic structures under dynamic loads is considered. A general objective functional for the problem is defined, and a functional treatment of the transient dynamic response constraints stress and displacement constraints is presented. Constraints on the natural frequency of the structure and the design variables are also included. The general method developed for this class of problems is then applied to truss-frame structures.
