A rod-shaped food concept using 0.2-in.-diameter by 3-in rods was operationally tested to meet the demands of pilots wearing full-pressure suits for solid or chewy foods. Of 7 food items evaluated, 6 had very acceptable flavor. Single- and multicavity rod-type devices for inserting the food items through the face plate of the pressure suit were acceptable. The multicavity device was more acceptable to newer pilots in the program, and the single-type device was more acceptable for experienced pilots. Author
