Abstract:
A conventional cable manufacturers concentric taping machine has been modified to wind a long solenoidal winding with a smooth pre-programmed turns density variation. An interpolating function generator with many adjustable set points is used to define the function of coil length that the turns density is to follow. A machine having this capability is needed to provide a towed ELF loop antenna with the smoothly tapered sensitivity variation it requires to discriminate against vibration noise.
