10.6 MICROMETER Pulsed Laser Damage in ZnSe,

The effect of 10.6 micrometer pulsed laser radiation on large grain ZnSe is examined with respect to the local crystallography of the material. In particular, the presence of twin boundaries, a common defect in II-VI materials, is shown to have very little effect on the damage threshold. Damage effects were monitored by Nomarski interference contrast microscopy, electron microscopy and x-ray topography.
