Abstract:
An analysis of near-term transportation alternatives for the Los Angeles region using the Policy-Oriented Urban Transportation Model developed by Rand is presented. The predicted effect on regional vehicle miles traveled of various levels of bus system improvements, carpooling incentives, and economic disincentives such as, mileage surcharges or increasing gasoline prices, and parking surgharges are shown. Changes in personal mobility as reflected in changes in the total number of person trips are also included.
