Abstract:
As many aircraft power plant and fuel system components are currently made from aluminum alloys, the authors have made a study of the fatigue strength of such alloys exposed to jet fuels at various temperatures. It was found that the fatigue strength of D16A-T aluminum alloy at 20C is somewhat lower in petroleum fuels than in air. In addition, the fatigue strength of the alloy decreased with increase in fuel temperature.
