Abstract:
A model capable of explaining transient behavior in hydrogen thyratrons for applications requiring instant full power operation has been developed. The model assumes that the primary mechanisms responsible for the transient behavior are gas heating and gas clean-up in the gridanode region. The types of transient behavior predicted by the model include prefiring, trigger instabilities and quenching. The model also provides a basis for design techniques to eliminate such transient behavior.
