Abstract:
Four stations were installed in Southern and Eastern Africa to observe Faraday rotation of signals from the geostationary satellite Intelsat IIF3 over a period of about 10 days including the solar eclipse of 30 June 1973. It was intended to investigate eclipse induced gravity waves which theory had suggested to be expected. In agreement with other observers, any such gravity waves were at less than 10 of the expected amplitude and were not observed.
