Potential vinyl chloride VC exposures were evaluated during meat packaging and during welding operations using heat to join polyvinyl chloride PVC sheets or film. The potential for VC exposure was evaluated by analyzing the PVC materials for entrained or encapsulated VC and by analyzing air samples collected during the meat wrapping and welding operations for VC. The results of all analyses are shown. The potential for exposure to vinyl chloride monomer at the 0.1 ppm level was not found to exist in either of the two operations studied. No vinyl chloride monomer was detected in the PVC materials.
