Abstract:

The rationale for the experiment is given. General aspects of the photon-photon scattering process are discussed. Vacuum considerations including a proposed vacuum system and a residual gas analysis are given. The number of scattering events due to the residual gas is calculated for high and low energy photons. Statistical considerations are briefly discussed. Three experimental proposals using specified laser systems are presented. The first proposal is to clash two similar laser pulses. The second proposal is to clash two laser generated x-ray beams. The third proposal involves clashing a gamma-ray beam from Co60 with a laser pulse.
