Abstract:

Computer Management Information MIS and Operations ResearchManagement Science ORMS techniques have had little impact on top-level managerial decision making. Some of the reasons for this include lack of communication, lack of necessary management incentive, differences in cognitive style between managers and ORMSMIS analysts, the perceived threat of the ORMSMIS techniques, and the fact that computer modeling is yet a relatively new technique. The report holds that computer models must be developed which interact with the manager to extend his thinking ability, rather than solve a problem. Management education has generally neglected managerial issues related to computer modeling. The use of computerized games and cases is discussed as means for training managers to model effectively.
