Abstract:

Let R denote a finite commutative ring with identity and let R sub n x n denote the nxn matrices over R. Each polynomial fx and element of Rin bracketsx defines, via substitution a function from R sub n x n to R sub n x n. In this paper necessary and sufficient conditions are given on a polynomial fx in order that it define a permutation of R sub n x n.
