Pagination or Media Count:
This research is designed to evaluate methods of nondestructively testing composite panels used in portable shelters. The panels have a core material composed of foam, balsawood, or paper honeycomb. A metal or fiber glass facing surrounds the core material. Disbonds, crushed core, water damage, and impact damage can occur in the panels. These flaws degrade the performance of the panels. The surveyed testing methods are grouped into the following categories radiography, acoustics, eddy sonics, thermal methods, the vacuum displacement technique, holographic interferometry, and the coefficient of restitution method.
