Abstract:

Methods of predicting gas-vent and ground-shock-induced airblast overpressure levels from underground explosions have been under investigation for many years. In order to obtain an a curate method for predicting peak overpressures and impulses from large-array-type detonations with different delay periods, more data from this type of event must become available. The airblast overpressure measurement program at R. D. BAILEY resulted in a large amount of data to be used, first, in estimating the airblast expected from future detonations in the R. D. BAILEY spillway area and, second, to provide further input to prediction method studies.
