Abstract:
A set of manual control experiments was conducted to determine the effects of control-stick parameters on tracking performance in a vibration environment. Preliminary experimental variables were stick design parameters, stick location, and presence or absence of vibration. Stick parameters had little effect on rms tracking error under vibration conditions for the particular aircraft dynamics that were used in this study. Considerable effect on control activity was observed, however, which suggests that stick design parameters will significantly influence overall performance in systems that respond at vibration frequencies. Stick location had no significant effect on either tracking or biodynamic performance measures.
