Abstract:

The problem of the turbulent mixing along the curved boundaries of a jet has been analyzed for an incompressible plane flow. The initial and fully developed regions of the curved mixing zone are analyzed with Tollmien and Goertler eddy viscosity models. It is shown that similarity solutions exist under certain conditions. A perturbation analysis is carried out to include the first order effects of curvature and growth of mixing zone. Comparison is made of the results of the numerical computation with the two eddy viscosity models. A parametric study of different centerline velocity decay rates and the external pressure gradient is made in the fully developed region.
