This report encompasses studies on 1 stress corrosion cracking behavior of mild steel in ammonium carbonate solutions 2 of high strength steels in water, 3 sodium chloride, 3 sodium sulfate and 3 sodium nitrate solutions. Emphasis was placed on measuring critical potentials below which failures do not occur. The availability of these potentials made it possible to assess and to predict useful galvanic couples for the prevention of stress corrosion failures.
