The fire extinguishing properties of chlorodifluoromethane were measured by using a propane gas burner fed with oxygen enriched air. The bench test employed controlled burner temperature, air and fuel pressure. Time to extinguish and quantity of chlorodifluoromethane used were the principal criteria for establishing extinguishing properties. Chlorodifluoromethane proved to be equal to another popular halogenated hydrocarbon, monobromotrifluoromethane.
