A study was conducted to examine the mechanical behavior of unidirectional fiber composites under multiaxial loading conditions. Of particular concern was the occurrence of plastic flow in both the fibers and matrix of composite systems possessing ductile fibers. An analytical model has been developed which incorporated plastic flow effects in the composite under any multiaxial loading without shear. This model used a micromechanics approach in calculating the internal stress distributions produced by an externally applied load using the finite element method of analysis.
