This volume contains a summary of a number of developments made in the final year of the THEMIS project in three separate areas 1 The development of a complete theory of conforming, mixed finite element approximations including a priori error estimates and stability criteria 2 The development of general numerical techniques for studying nonlinear elastodynamic behavior of incompressible isotropic bodies and 3 The development of general techniques for studying the accuracy and convergence of finite elements for time dependent problems, with emphasis on problems of convection and diffusion.
