A Continuous-Slowing-Down Electron Energy Deposition Model.

A simple continuous-slowing-down model of the altitude dependent energy deposition of energetic auroral electrons is described. The computer code uses experimental cross sections in numerical form where they are available, and predicts the volume production rates of the various excitation, ionization, and dissociation processes for the atmospheric species N2, O2, and O. Some sample results for the low energy electron flux and for the total energy deposition rate are shown and compared to the predictions of other codes.
