An Accurate Economical Numerical Radiation Transport Algorithm.

A multidirection radiation transport algorithm is described and tested. It numerically constructs solutions of the steady-state radiation transport equation which propagate radiation in straight lines through optically thin regions, and accurately model the absorption of radiation in regions where the opacity may become very large. Tests are performed for external and internal sources in homogeneous or inhomogeneous media. The results are compared with analytical results and with the Milne and Schwarzschild approximations. The algorithm is shown to be superior to both approximations, in many cases, for both thin and thick cases.
