Abstract:

The events leading up to and including the so called Cuban Missile Crisis are presented as an example of show of strength as a deterrent. US leadership was found to be not as firm as had been pictured, but a nuclear war was averted and this has to be counted a success. Several questions have arisen from this incident, and possible answers to these questions has been proposed with recommendations for meeting future incidents based on lessons learned from the Cuban Missile Crisis.
